1979 Hall of Fame Inductee

Jack Stringham weighed only 165 pounds when he played fullback for the Brigham Young University football team, but he was often called upon when the team needed someone to take the ball through the middle of an airtight line.

A Granite High School football standout, Jack didn’t limit himself to one sport in college. He won the AAU 165-pound boxing title one year and barely missed it another year when he was beaten by a Cougar grid teammate. He also lettered one year in wrestling.

In 1938 he was selected to play in the Shrine All-Star game at Providence, Rhode Island. The team played against the Chicago Bears of the National Professional Football League. Jack later became a pro himself when he signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers football team in 1938.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1943 and played fullback for the Army football team at Fort Douglas.
