Track records are made to be broken. They are thin, frail, and dynamic. Endurance makes the feat even more remarkable. From 1964 to 1967 David Reeves was remarkable.

Running the 100- and 220-yard dashes and the 4x110 and 4x440 relays, David set three records, which lasted years after he had gone. His record of 9.4 in the 100-yard dash and 20.8 in the 220-yard dash lived for ten years. As a member of the 4x110 relay, the time of 40.4 survived until 1984.

David's fifth-place finish in the 1967 220-yard dash earned him All-American honors. He was also part of the Cougar 4x110 relay team that was named All-American with their second place finish.

In 1967 David was named team captain for the Cougars as well as being honored as the Wayne B. Hales Outstanding Senior Athlete that year. David's contributions to the team helped the Cougars finish high in the NCAA championships his last three years. From 1965-67, BYU finished fourth, second and fifth respectively.
