PROVO, Utah (Sept. 20, 2017) – BYU Director of Athletics Tom Holmoe today announced the promotion of three athletic department employees. Brian Santiago, has been named Deputy Athletics Director, Liz Darger, has been named Senior Associate Athletics Director and Trevor Wilson, is now an Associate Dean of Students.
As Deputy Athletics Director, Santiago is the sports administrator for 10 athletic teams and oversees game management for football and basketball. He also oversees sports marketing, communications and sports camps. He recently finished serving a four-year term on the NCAA Men's Volleyball Committee, serving as Chair in 2013.
Santiago earned an A.S. in accounting from Utah Valley, a B.S. in business administration with an emphasis in International Business from Fresno State (1995), and a MBA from BYU's Marriott School of Management (2001). Santiago came to BYU in 1997 as a member of the men’s basketball staff, before moving into athletic administration in 2001. After six years as an assistant and associate athletic director, he was appointed to senior associate in the fall of 2008 and has filled that position for the past nine years.
As Senior Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator, Darger is the sports administrator for six athletic teams and the spirit squads. She also oversees human resources, gender equity, student-athlete welfare, and the department diversity and inclusion efforts. She is also a campus Deputy Title IX coordinator. In addition, Darger serves on a variety of committees, including the BYU homecoming committee, BYU Women’s Conference Committee, the West Coast Conference Executive Committee, WCC Championships and Sport Administration Cabinet and the NCAA Common Ground Leadership Team.
Darger earned a B.S. in Family Sciences from BYU (2000) and a M.S. in School Counseling Psychology from BYU (2004). Darger joined the BYU athletic staff in 2015 as an Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator. Before BYU, Darger worked in the athletic department at Utah Valley University from 2009-15 and at Timpanogos High School from 2005-09.
Wilson, Director of the Student Athlete Academic Center, joins the Dean of Students executive team under the leadership of Associate Student Life Vice President and Dean of Students Vernon Heperi. Wilson will serve alongside existing Associate Deans Sarah Westerberg and Casey Peterson and will have particular responsibility for the well-being of the BYU student-athletes. Wilson will continue to direct the SAAC as it transitions to become a more comprehensive resource for student athletes, expanding beyond its previous focus of academic achievement to incorporate assistance with housing, financial aid, career development and other student issues. Moving forward, the SAAC will be known as the Student Athlete Life and Learning Center.
Wilson earned a B.S. in physical education from BYU-Hawaii (1992), and a M.A. in education from Willamette University (1994). He will complete a doctorate in administration from BYU in December 2017. Wilson came to BYU in 2011 as the Director of the SAAC. Before BYU he was a Principal at Ogden High School (2010-11) and Mt. Ogden Junior High School (2006-10). He also was the Athletic Director at North Salem High School in Oregon (2004-06) and worked in the athletic department at Weber State University (1997-2004).
