Sophomore tight end
Hobby outside of football
Snowboard, draw, anything outdoors—fly fish and things like that. Utah’s a great place for outdoor stuff. It’s been really cool living out here, being able to some of that stuff.
Favorite ski resort
Sundance because it’s pretty affordable. Park City sometimes too, especially since it’s gotten bigger.
Favorite football memory
The first game I started in high school, I was playing receiver. I had the game-winning touchdown with a minute left. That was my first game, my first experience starting on varsity team as a sophomore. That’s one of my favorite memories.
And at BYU?
I just got started, but when I first started summer workouts, all of the new guys were doing their own separate thing. But I was working the camp side, so I had to come in early. It was me working out by myself with one of the trainers. It was a little date time between us.
The place he’d most like to travel to
New Zealand. There’s a lot to do there. ‘Lord of the Rings’ was filmed there, you can go snowboarding, but also surfing. There are so many things you can do all in one day. It seems like a cool place to go visit. Everyone I’ve met from New Zealand has been way great.
Something most people don’t know about you
I was born in Mexico City. I have dual citizenship, but I don’t use it. My parents were living there when I was born.
Thoughts on coaching staff
It’s a coaching staff that cares about its players. Players see and understand that, so we respond really well and can follow that. I think that’s a big thing that’s really helped the team come together.
Favorite ice cream flavor
Oreo ice cream. Cookies and cream or cookie dough.
Sophomore defensive lineman
Statistics, I want to go into the big data analysis part of stats. It’s interesting and I like it.
Where did your name come from?
My family is named in the ABC’s, and I’m the third one so Corbin just happened to be the one.
Bronson or Nick Kurtz because some people get us all mixed up.
One thing people don’t know about you
I love ceramics. My brother took a class in high school as a filler class and he loved it. He convinced me to take it and we loved it. Sculpting and throwing pots, that’s our thing. I’ve been looking for a good place to do it at, but I try to find a wheel every now and again. We do have our claim to fame collection. It’s all crappy stuff but my mom likes it.
Favorite football memory
I love John Beck to Jonny Harline because I was at the game and it was just crazy. I remember I was depressed because I was a little kid and I was just like, "Oh I can’t believe we just lost," and then when that happened it was like, "Oh my gosh." I just sat in shock with my family. It was awesome.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I would like to go back to Korea. That’s where I served my mission so there or back to the islands, Tonga.
What sport would you do in the Olympics?
I wish I were really good at being a gymnast because those guys are ripped and do some crazy stuff.
Something outside of football you’re looking forward to?
The obvious answer would probably be basketball, but the less obvious answer is waiting for my brother to have a kid. I keep putting pressure on him.
