Decathlon comes to an end at Texas Relays

After competing in two days of events, Kevin Nielsen finished No. 5 overall in the decathlon at the Texas Relays. Jackson Walker also competed but did not compete in the final events of the competition. 

Nielsen came in first place overall in the long jump with a mark of 7.42 meters and placed eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.00, just a tenth of a second off of his career-best time. He also came in third in the high jump and in his final event, he took fourth in the 1500-meter run. At the conclusion of the 10 events, Nielsen finished with a career-best score of 7,439. 

Korey Smith came in eighth and Max Scheible in 10th in the men's 400-meter hurdles. Brenna Porter finished 13th in the first round of the women's 400-meter hurdles. 

Junior Jake Jarvis finished second, sophomore Raul Rios in third and junior Jameson Shirley took 10th in the pole vault. In the men's javelin throw, Kraymer Eppich came in sixth and Jacob Barnes came in 10th. Junior Elyse Cuthbertson finished in 13th place in the women's javelin throw.
