BYU women’s volleyball junior outside hitter Veronica Jones-Perry continued to play well in the U.S. Women’s Collegiate National Team semifinals Friday afternoon in Minneapolis.
Jones-Perry started every set for the third-consecutive match and helped Team Blue come away with a victory over Team White in five sets (22-25, 25-15, 23-25, 15-13, 15-13).
In the first set, Team White came out on top 25-22 while Team Blue bounced back and took the second set, 25-15.
Team White narrowly edged out Team Blue in the third set, 25-23, with set point earned on a Blue error.
To keep the tournament on schedule, set four was played to 15 points instead of the typical 25. Team White took an early 4-1 lead before a kill from Jones-Perry tied it 6-6. The teams battled back and forth, evening the score five more times. Jones-Perry racked up four kills in the set, including two to tie the score at 11-11 and 12-12. Team Blue won the set 15-13.
The fifth and final set included five ties before Team Blue pulled away 15-13 as Jones-Perry added two more kills.
Jones-Perry and Team Blue will compete in the finals against Team Red Friday, June 30, at 5:30 p.m. CDT on Court 19. A live stream video will be available on USA Volleyball's website.
