Wayne E. Pearce

1984 Hall of Fame Inductee

When Wayne Pearce retired, after 17 years as the tennis coach at BYU, the sentiments of the school were expressed by his long-time friend and associate Glen Tuckett: "He has elevated the BYU tennis program to a position of national prominence. His record, his coaching expertise and his gentle manner are certain to have a lasting effect on the program."

In the years Wayne spent as a Cougar Coach, his teams were victorious over 200 times. During five of those years the Cougars finished in the top ten in the country. They also won or shared six conference titles.

Three times Wayne took his teams to Europe to meet international competition. They came home with a record of 21 wins against only four losses, a record any coach can be proud of.

As an undergraduate at the University of Utah, Wayne was the number one singles player for three years. Wayne continued his association with BYU as a teacher in the Marriott School of Management.
